Chapter 3
The power of your thoughts
Nothing happens until you speak
Anytime you open your mouth to speak, something will happen, so you better chose your words wisely. If you can dream the invisible by faith, you can do the impossible. If you can just believe in your words, the inconceivable can be made tangible and the abstract can be made concrete.
Speaking has always produced major changes in the world due to the choice of words that have been spoken. There are ways of speaking, you are either speaking to someone, speaking on behalf of someone or you are speaking with someone.
When you speak or communicate, you should expect a response in return. You should, therefore, communicate effectively and meaningfully when you speak to someone.
To be a speaker is powerful, someone can speak to a situation that would have otherwise caused a disaster. Your company can ask someone to speak to the rest of the staff, God can also ask someone to go and speak to another person. An attorney could speak for someone, a parent could speak on behalf of a child, an advocate can speak for someone and an intercessor can also speak on behalf of someone.
Speaking to someone can be in form of a dialogue or, maybe an interview. When speaking with someone, one person has to give enough room for the other to be comfortable enough to contribute meaningfully to the conversation.
Speaking is so powerful, and that is why some people will be prevented from speaking while some will be allowed to speak. In the scriptures, Apostle Paul was allowed to perform miracles and other works but prevented from speaking. Why? His words were so powerful, powerful enough to change people. He was prevented from telling people about the truth which Jesus Christ brought to mankind.
People want to hear lies, but it is only the truth spoken in the right way that gives life, and freedom from bondage, sin, corruption, and alike.
Knowing how to speak and relate to others is essential, it will aid effective communication. It is important to be able to relate well with your audience when speaking because it keeps both parties fully engaged.
Some successful people or leaders of today lose touch with the ordinary people who are not yet successful because they are too busy, it is the same between people and God, don’t get so busy to the point that you lose touch with God.
God is always saying something to us, but we tend to miss it because we are too busy, endlessly working, and chasing money to pay all kinds of bills. One has to continually communicate with God to receive God’s guidance. Effective communication with God takes practice, time, and deliberate effort.
Most times when we communicate, we communicate to tell and not to listen, in the same way, many of us communicate with God but never wait for a response. The action of continually hearing from God has to be deliberate and, you have to dedicate some time to it.
Instinct versus Experience
There will sometimes be a war between your instincts and your past experiences, sometimes your instincts might push you to go forward to create, but the previous and rough experiences that you have once faced may scare you to dare to move forward again.
This war and fear to move forward can happen if you try to build on your own and with your own strength. The result from this kind of spiritual attack can cause stagnation. God's intention for you is to increase and not remain stagnant or rendered useless.
When you give your life to Jesus Christ, all the past experiences and the labels that man has given to you such as lazy, poor, prostitute, failure, barren, sick, ugly, and alike will no longer count. In fact, it never counted, it was because you did not know. Jesus Christ already paid the price for all your shortcomings. Don't allow people to speak anything contrary to what God is saying about you, into your life.
The word of God says that "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" So you see, don't allow your past to keep you in bondage, set yourself free by allowing Christ to rebrand and renew you, and when you become that new creation, stand firm and continue watching.
One’s intellect and conclusion may be based on one’s experiences and, even though instincts usually sense what is yet to happen, it sometimes pushes someone beyond just being safe or settling in a comfortable zone. And even though you feel safe, you are not exactly where God wants you to be. To be where God wants you to be, you need to be in continual fellowship with God.
How then does one take that leap, that first step without being afraid of being overwhelmed or drowned? Taking that leap will be the beginning of the battle between your past and your future. This, unfortunately, occurs in our daily life experiences.
Every time someone is doing something right for the very first time, there will be opposition and the natural feeling of fear before taking a leap forward to become totally free.
A lot of people live in bondage and have been abused in various ways but chose to live in it. This is because such living has now become a normal thing to them and it is what they have ever been exposed to. Just because something is familiar does not make it normal and acceptable.
Experiences always contradict instincts. Fear, anxiety, doubt, insecurity, or uncertainty all prevent someone from following the desires of one’s heart. The fear is usually due to a lack of spiritual understanding, skills, training, background, or the lack of resources required to be fulfilled and productive in the outside world.
Remember that, there will always be a challenge between staying as you are and moving forward to being that person God originally created. You have to work for it to attain it.
A person’s bondage is spiritual. We have all been born into captivity, we have all been born into generational sin and until we break that chain, it will be impossible to live a life that is liberal. The scripture verifies that in Psalm 51.5. It says “Behold, I was brought forth in [a state of] iniquity; my mother was sinful who conceived me [and I too am sinful].”
Everyone wants to be a better person in life but the fear of the unknown keeps drawing people back. It might not be evident in people’s faces but their soul cries and weeps for more in life and when they cannot get out of such feeling, they console themselves with, “I am just okay and comfortable here” statements, when in fact they are not.
The second challenge is the limp of transition. Transitions are important but difficult. It is not easy to go through a process of change without pain.
That pain you see is joy. The joy of allowing God to reform you, renew you, and build through you. Once you begin to understand that the change in your life is not necessarily for you but for the purpose of God and His creation, you will surrender all. That's because only Him is the architect of your life and if you have to build, or create, or make that change, you would have to allow Him to do it His way and not your way.
Instinct versus urge
You can only prosper from what comes out of the authentic you. The authentic you is God's version of you. If you prosper from what is not meant to be yours or manipulate people to prosper, you will eventually lose it and if you happen to have it, it is considered as a bad success.
If you also solely rely on people to build you, when people leave you, you may lose your authenticity, so be you, activate what God has embedded in you and prosper with it.
What is your heart's desire? You will know when you are using what is within your core because you will be very comfortable using it, it may be challenging to you initially but the comfort will soon override the challenges over time if you allow a window of growth and development.
You cannot spend out of yourself if you do not invest in yourself. You have to invest in what you have got burning inside of you, your inclinations, your passions, your talents, and gifts. You have to sacrifice some time into what you have, use your energy, and be hungry for what you want to be.
God has created us to be fruitful in life. Being fruitful in life means sowing some seeds in lives that will cause growth in others. You have to find out what your seeds are, some people are blessed with multiple seeds and are creative in multiple ways. For instance, one person may be blessed to be a singer, an actor, and a writer all at the same time.
There has to be a change of mind from “I cannot do it” to “Yes, I can”, so think of your mind as a steering wheel that controls the direction of your destiny in life, in essence, you can transform your life by the way you think and with the things that are in your mind.
