Chapter 5
The heart of what is written
When you write, you should write from the soul and with power, not with your own power but with the power of God. Your writing should be anointed with the power just enough to change lives.
Your writing should be able to change people regardless of age or background. Why is this? Even if you have a target audience and your writing changes something in them, it should also be able to affect the people around them too.
If your writing lifts the spirit of others, the people affected will behave in such a way that, whatever is in them will reflect on the outside, to the people around them, and to the world as a whole.
Knowing what to say and how to say it is essential in writing. If you do not know what to say, perhaps it is better not to say anything at all.
Sometimes, all that you need is clarity, if you are not clear about what you are trying to convey, then your audience might not be clear too.
Writing is inspirational food. When you write, you are feeding yourself, the reader, and having an emotional connection with them.
If you are not in love with your own writing and do not feel it yourself, then the readers will most likely not feel it too.
Your writing needs to have the power to connect with others on a spiritual level, this simply means connecting from what is real and within your heart.
When you write from the heart, do not allow what is happening around you to affect what has been deposited in your heart by God.
You should have self-control and focus on the vision and mission of your writing and not on your circumstances.
Feel free to feel more, the more you feel from the heart, the more you are able to write from within.
Also, be sure not to be moved by your own feelings or what you think that people feel about you. What people think of you is not your business.
The heart is the most deceitful part of the body and if you base your writing on how you feel, you will be depressed by your own feelings.
Instead, feel because you are human, brush your feelings aside and step into the real, the spiritual you and the mission to write and tell your own story.
The only way to open up spiritually is to guard what is going in and what is coming out from within you. You will require the wisdom of God to pour out what is in your heart.
It is important to think about what you are thinking of, because, as a person thinks in his heart so will the person be and so will the person write about.
Allow yourself to feel it all, choose which thoughts you would like to become. There is absolutely nothing wrong with feeling, what should not happen is allowing your feelings to press you down.
If you have ever had the taste of true love from Jesus Christ, you would choose to be free and lost in such love. Being free is bliss and it will reflect in what you write.
You have to passionately care about your writing because your thoughts transform into what you write.
If you care less about what you are thinking about or if what you are thinking about is always negative, it will show in what you do and what you write.
Writing is a commitment and there must be something that keeps you committed to it. Your writing is your voice and you should determine how committed you are to your voice in your own generation.
Every thought of yours is an energy, and the word it produces too is an energy. Every word that you say and every word that you write should count, be precious and be meaningful to you.
It will be your choice to also find the best way to convey a negative word. Sometimes, you cannot do without them in writing but how you present them will matter.
Where there is a negative word or writing, there would have been a form of negative thought and the only way to write positively is to think positively.
Doreen Virtue said that the highest vibrational word ever is found in the word "PEACE". Peace means a lot and can do a lot in one’s life. Without peace in your life, it is almost impossible to think and remain positive, let alone write.
I found my own peace in Christ Jesus and nothing can replace that kind of peace, it almost seems like calmness in the midst of an earthquake.
That is how you will know that you are at peace. There is rest in all situations, whether good or bad.
When you are at peace with yourself and with the world around you, your soul will be refreshed, and your writing will always remain fresh too.
That peace in Christ Jesus gives me an ownership to what I write and the commitment to write it.
Just like when you are pregnant with a child, your writing should also be pregnant with love and peace, and with whatever you want for yourself and for your readers.
As you nurture your pregnancy, you also have to nurture every single word that you say and write. You are what you write.
Writing every day will be part of your commitment, and all that you have to really do is to show up at your computer desk, sit down and just begin to write.
You really do not have to be in the mood to write. If you are committed to it, you will write. For me, this makes sense.
I worship God by all means, whether I like it or not, whether I am so happy at that moment or not. I just find myself worshiping God mostly when things seem to be looking opposite to what my spirit is telling me.
In the same way, I write even when I don't feel like it. Whenever I write, I believe that I am making unseen progress.
If you wait for the sky to be bright or for your mood to be right and for everything around you to be perfect, you may write eventualllllllllllly.
You see, I just used my own kind of positive word instead of a negative word. Instead of saying that you may never write if you put your commitment to writing off, I wrote, “you may write eventualllllllllllly”. It will only happen when you want it to happen.
You will eventually find the right audience, and a publishing deal not because you are hungry for a publishing deal but because you deserve to be heard and your book deserves to be out there in the world where it belongs.
Sometimes, I honestly do not know what to write and all I do is show up, open my laptop, sit down, open a blank page and God usually does the rest.
God knows what He wants you to hear and what He wants you to share. The more you write and share, the easier your writing will become and the faster it will travel to where it is most needed.
Just as you are brave and bold, so will your writing be bold enough to hit the world with no fear.
Remember that everyone has got something similar to say but the only way to stand out is to allow your heart to beat through your writing and through your story.
Every story is always unique in its own way, so begin now, write yours and stand out.
